Special attention was given to the design of advanced joint phase & frequency synchronization algorithms for space applications.

In September 2001, he joined the Communication Signal Processing Group, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree entitled "Low-SNR Maximum Likelihood Techniques in Ultra-Wideband and Free-Spectrum Communications".

In the recent years, Jose A. Lopez-Salcedo serves as a reviewer for many international journals such as the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and IEEE Signal Processing Magazine.

On May 2003, Jose A. Lopez-Salcedo received the IEEE STG Award from the IEEE Communications Society for the paper "Stochastic Approach to Square Timing Estimation with Frequency Uncertainty" presented at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) in Anchorage, Alaska, USA.
