Biography

Dr. Olga Muñoz-Medina received the M.S. degree in 1993 and the PhD degree in 1998, both in Electrical Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain. In 1994 she joined the Department of Signal Theory and Communications at the same University, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses related to signal processing and communications. She became an Associate Professor in 2001.

She has participated in European Commission funded projects such as FIREWORKS, ROCKET, FREEDOM, TROPIC and TUCAN3G in the topics of cooperative communications for multihop systems, coordinated radio resource allocation among multiple base stations, and joint allocation of radio and computational resources in small base stations enhanced with computational capabilities. Currently, she is leading the Spanish Government funded project 5G&B-RUNNER devoted to the design, analysis, and evaluation of a number of radio technologies in ultra-dense networks to meet the requirements for capacity and quality of service, distributed intelligence and flexibility needed for the 5G and beyond systems.

She has participated as a reviewer for the Spanish Research Council. She is member of IEEE and has served as a reviewer in several journals and conferences, and as a chair at VTC and Globecom conferences. She has made several contributions to 3GPP RAN3 in the topic of interference coordination in small cells.

Her interests are in signal processing and communication systems, areas where she has published over 40 papers in books, international conferences, and journals.
