Summary

Development of VLSI architectures for iterative decoding of the concatenated codes (convolutional plus Reed-Solomon) used in the DVB-S and DVB-RCS standards. The objective is to define a scheme for RS decoding that accepts soft inputs from the convolutional decoder and delivers soft outputs to the convolutional decoder for re-iteration. Establishment of decoding gain achieved with respect to single-pass convolutional plus hard RS decoding schemes. Part of this work was presented at the International Symposium of Turbo Codes and Related Topics (ISTCRT'03) where the paper received the Best Poster Paper Award.
