Gregori Vázquez was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1961. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, in 1984 and 1988, respectively and a MBA by ESADE, Barcelona in 1993.
Since February 2000, he is a Full Professor at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona. His general interests are Statistical Signal Processing and Digital Communications. He has been involved in research projects in mobile, satellite and wireless communications of the European Commission, of the European Space Agency and for private companies.
He is a recipient of the 2003 Best Paper (Senior) Award of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and 2013 Best Paper Award of the IEEE International Conference on Communications.
He was serving as the Program Director of the Research Program on Communications of Spain, in the period 2004-2006. He was also serving in the "Information and Communication Technologies" Committee (ICTC) of the VII Framework Program of the European Union in the period 2007-2011. He was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction on Signal Processing (1999-2005), Member of the Editorial Board of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine (2002-2006) and Member of the Signal Processing for Communications (SPCOM) Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (2002-2006), as well.
